Abrasives

Safety in the Storage & use of coated abrasives

All coated abrasives should be handled carefully. Damage can be caused by improper handling, which should be avoided. Coated abrasives should be stored in dry, frost free conditions. They should be kept away from heat sources, cold, damp walls, doors or windows and should not be exposed to direct contact with the floor. Temperatures and humidity should be between 15°C and 25°C and 35%-60% relative humidity. Coated abrasives should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Products should be kept in their original packaging until immediately before use. Once unpacked, they should be stored in a way which avoids distortion.

Wide belt Storage

If you follow some basic recommendations on wide belt storage, you can be assured that the belts remain undamaged and maintain their full potential.

  • Store belts in their unopened packages
  • Please always unpack complete cartons. Don't leave any belts in the packaging to avoid differences in humidity.
  • After removal, hang the tapes horizontally
  • If the belts stand on the floor, the moisture difference between the top and bottom may be too great
  • To prevent dragging against one another, the tapes must not hang too close to one another
  • Tapes must not hang too close to a cold outside wall, otherwise condensation moisture can build up
  • The ideal storage temperature is 15-25 ° C
  • The relative humidity is recommended to be 35-60% in order for the belts to maintain their shape
  • Never expose tapes to direct sunlight
  • Hang the belts up on capsules or gallows 1-2 days before use and weigh down the lower belt loop
  • If the machine is not used for a long time, switch off the belt tension and store the belts on the boom until used again
  • To avoid kinks or tears, we recommend 2 people when transporting the wide belt
General Precautions

Safety instructions provided by the machine manufacturers must be followed. Where fitted all guards, covers and hoods must be in place on the machine during grinding, and should not be modified in any way. Abrasives must not be used near flammable material or in an environment where there is a risk of explosion. Sparks should be directed away from the face and body towards the floor. Dust extraction equipment must be used whenever it is available. The instructions for use given by the abrasive manufacturer must be followed. The workpiece must be firmly fixed before grinding starts. Check all abrasives visually before use and make certain that the product is suitable for the application. The abrasive products should not be modified after delivery. When using a hand grinder, always turn off the engine and allow the machine to come to a complete stop before putting the tool down. Wet grinding should only be performed on machines designed for this purpose and only abrasives manufactured for this grinding operation should be used.
